Low-carbon ammonia has real promise as a hydrogen carrier for Europe, especially for imports and sectors that need large volumes of hydrogen. However, efficiency issues, , Policy and Regulation, safety risks, and competition from other solutions are major challenges. It’s most likely to find success where direct hydrogen infrastructure isn’t practical — such as maritime imports, heavy industry, and possibly large-scale power generation.
